Keen Guides, Inc started because of personal experiences of the founder (Catherin McNally). A hearing impaired women, she couldn’t take the audio provided for live tours of museums and other commonly toured public locations. She created video tours to be played on her iPod. This was the founding idea that create Keen Guides.
The company is focused on building a platform for delivering professional quality video tours of national monuments. They are currently targeting the iPhone platform to build on. It will be focused on the iPhone’s location service to know what tours are available in an area you are traveling. Allowing you to download the tour and view the tour before, while or after you visit the location. There are so many detaisl I know I miss out on when I visit a museum. I have already been surprised at the things I learned from their current video tours of the Washington DC location.
The Story
Keen Guides was part of the Launch Box Digital group; an organization of venture capitalists and angel investors focused on giving selected companies a boost into the market. Launch Box organizes a pitch session for each company part of the group. This pitch session gives each company the chance to share to potential investors and partners their vision and product(s).
Keen Guides contacted Oxide Design, their previous design firm and they contacted us. They needed an iPhone app to demo their platform. This was a fun challenge to bring together working product that was less than a beta, but more than a prototype. The app had to be functional and polished in order to demonstrate Keens vision for the company. And… Keen’s scheduled pitch session was scheduled not long after we all started working on their iPhone project.
They were even featured on techcrunch.com and once more. It’s really exciting know that I worked with a company who was talked about on techncrunch.com, not to metion quoted as to saying: “… has a very nice iPhone app”.
