Every business name has a story. No matter how complicated or simple the name of the business or product, it has a story. Many folks over the last year have asked: “What does Ninth Division mean?” This last week on Wednesday was Veterans Day and it felt like the perfect opportunity to tell the story.
I had a great influence from my two grandfathers when I grew up. I am lucky to say they are still alive and kicking with just as much influence now as they had 20 years ago. My one grandfather in particular, Roger Peters inspired the name Ninth Division to me.
We go on bicycle rides (still to this day) together a lot. He and I have done four bicycling trips across the state of Nebraska together. On those bike trips we get to telling many stories; well mostly he does but I try. Many of those stories were about his experiences in World Ware 2 (you should take some time and watch this video and then this video to learn more about his experiences). One of the things I learned from his stories was that he went over to Europe as part of the ninth army division. Officially, Ninth Division comes from the military division named the ninth infrantry division. Considering all the training and traveling he went through up to leaving for Europe, it just felt so fitting to have that name.
When I was coming up with names, Ninth Division was the first name which I liked still the next day. Then I saw how it could be a great marketable name; logos, colors, meaning, and other exciting stuff. But most of all I liked it, because every time I said the name it reminds me of the great stories grandpa tells on those bike rides.
