The state of Touch Cam address

It’s been quite some time since the last post about Touch Cam. You can read this last post, or read the following for a recap…

We made Touch Cam free. We recently submitted a version 1.2 with some small changes; mainly adding more language support. It was rejected because of how we synchronize videos taken with Touch Cam and videos taken with the camera app.

Thanks

First, thanks to all the 50k+ people who have downloaded it from the App Store. The response was great. We have had personal emails even from folks… keep em coming – touchcam@ninthdivision.

Here are a few things that people said even….

Easy to use and I like how the videos are sorted… even the ones recorded before I downloaded this app. –Mr Mojo 305

Touch Cam is at a great start off, and I like the icon and it’s price. …. – Zak Saber

It’s A Project

Touch Cam started as a project and still is a project. A project to us is something fun to work on, but we don’t have a product strategy for. We solved a problem we wanted solved and released it. No marketing push, no official support channel, and big identity… which is what makes a product.

Projects carry a lower priority on our list. If it doesn’t fit in our current strategy, then it’s a project. Something we put aside and work on at night, when we are at some down time, or when we feel completely inspired. Right now, there hasn’t been a lot of work with Touch Cam and probably won’t for a little while.

Free

We did charge for it originally and made enough money back to be happy with the progress. Version 1.2 was rejected and it indicated that future versions of the app would probably be rejected if we kept the synchronization in there. Version 1.1 however, remains in the App Store approved.

By making it free, we didn’t make money on it we got the app into thousands of more iPhones. By doing that we were able to learn tons more. For instance, to be #2 in Free Photography apps in France you need to have over 3,000 downloads a day. Did you know that? I didn’t.

One of the things Hasani and I strive for is the opportunity to learn. Learn from your users, your clients, your code, your family, etc. We are constantly trying to challenge ourselves as programmers, businessmen, video gamers, etc. To do that, we needed a vehicle. Touch Cam was perfect for it. We have a priority for vehicles of learning in our work.

Future

Development on Touch Cam has come to a stop. We have been working with some fantastic clients as we better position the business. There are a few iPhone Apps on deck that we have made with a few partners in crime. Here shortly we will be putting some big efforts into full products. That being said, bigger and better things are brewing. Touch Cam is taking a back seat.

Thanks again for the support.
